Their actual AI is about as bad you’d expect from like a game like this but being able to use their powers on your own alleviates any issue you might have had otherwise. The core of the battle system is about borrowing your teammates powers and after some skill tree unlocks you can even activate multiple at once and combine them. I’ve never seen an action RPG implement your party members so well in combat either. All of the presents you give your companions actually pile up and decorate your hideout really nicely and your friends will even be interacting with the stuff you got them or each other so there was a touch more care put into this aspect than your average third person bond raiser. Neither side feels completely fleshed out which tends to happen with games that juggle these two mechanics but both are extremely satisfying nonetheless. There’s high tech flashy action gameplay with a side of good ol fashioned anime bond raising with your partners to learn more about them and give you new advantages in battles by expanding their powers. Imagine a cross between Astral Chain and Fire Emblem. It’s an action RPG but really more like an ACTION rpg because there’s way more action than roleplaying game elements.
